| Upper Reaches
Theatre
Just a few months ago, Dave and
I founded Upper Reaches
Theatre, a new theatre organization that is based out of
Long Beach, Cali. The website
is often updated, since it's currently serving as our virtual
office.
In October of 2007, we will present
a series of four spankin' new scripts. Check the website for
upcoming events in your area!
Cornerstone Theater Company
I will be returning to Cornerstone
Theater Company to stage manage the Literature
to Life show: WARRIORS DON'T CRY. We performed it this past
winter for the students in Los Angeles Public Schools, and we
will remount it this Fall. It's a play based on a memoir by
Melba Patillo Beals. It focuses on the integration of Little
Rock, Arkansas' Central High School in 1957. It's been a wonderful
process and I'm enjoying the team and the script.
South Coast Repertory
From December 2007-May 2008, I
will be the stage manager on SCR's
Eddy Mini-tour. Each weekday, we will visit a different school
and perform the 1-hour long, educational musical. Past shows'
themes have ranged from water pollution to U.S. history.
Since September of 2006, I have
been working as a Production Assistant at South
Coast Repertory.
The responsibilities of a PA at
SCR are not unlike those of a Deck- or Assistant Stage Manager.
The main difference is that I am not a member of The Professional
Union for Actors and Stage Managers, Actors'
Equity.
In addition to helping to run NOTHING
SACRED, I will serve as ASM on two shows: JAMES AND THE GIANT
PEACH and our annual Christmas show about Mexican holiday traditions:
LA POSADA MAGICA.
All in all, I am excited about
working as a professional stage manager and am happy to be able
to focus on my career, after a challenging three years of graduate
work.
Past Projects
Cornerstone Theater Company
Institute 3
From July 9 through August 6, I
took part in Cornerstone
Theater Company's I-3. We spent a busy month in San Fransisco,
and worked with USF and an exciting group of artists. We produced
LETHE, an original
script by San Francisco playwright Octavio
Solis. We created this piece with with the community of
seniors and their caregivers to bring this story to life.
We performed to boisterous full
houses on August 3, 4, and 5, 2006 at USF's Presentation
Theater.
Thesis Project
Spring Quarter is upon us and I
am working diligently on my thesis paper project. I've decided
to take advantage of the fact that I have had the opportunity
to work professionally at so many varied companies during the
last year and write about my experiences. I will reflect on
the processes and the culmination of my paper will include my
creation of a new-and-improved Stage Management Internshp Program.
Graduation is in June, so I'd better get back to my writing.

During the '04-'05 season, I worked
as Stage Management Intern on Arthur Miller's A View from
the Bridge. This was the final Segerstrom Stage (mainstage)
show of the 2004-2005 season. I'd worked the production since
rehearsals began on the 18th of April. As the Intern, I served
as second assistant stage manger on the deck. My responsibilities
included: pre- and post-rehearsal setup, assisting with company
calls, and overseeing 'Line School.' The show ran through the
26th of June.
This fall, I worked as Intern on
the Julianne Argyros Stage (second stage) on a Joe Penhall script
called Dumb Show. David Emmes, Producing Artistic Director,
provided the stage direction for this British Comedy. As a Stage
Management Intern in this venue, I had more responsibility.
Immediately following the closing
of Dumb Show, I was offered (and accepted) a Production
Assistant position on the world premiere of Jeff Whitty's new
piece The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler. This
was a workshopped script at SCR's Pacific
Playwrights Festival in May of 2005. The show was wonderful,
complex, and exciting in all aspects. As the Production Assistant,
I was responsible for running the stage deck. We had moving,
tracked scenery, many fly pieces, and a crew in addition to
the Intern and myself. It was incredibly challenging to coordinate
all the pieces, but also very rewarding.
Opera Pacific www.operapacific.org
This past October,
a mere two days after Dumb Show closed at South Coast
Repertory, I headed uptown to work as Production Assistant on
Opera Pacific's Tosca. This was my first experience
working opera and it was like nothing I ever experienced. My
responsibilities included overseeing the adult and child chorus
members and the supernumeraries. I was also responsible for
cueing some of the entrances. Opera is different from theatre
in many ways; one being that the stage management and/or backstage
staff is responsible for ensuring proper timing of singers'
entrances.
TheatreWorksUSA/NYC ww.theatreworksusa.org
Walk Two Moons
ran at The Lucille Lortel Theatre on Christopher street, in
The Village, from July 7-August 14. TheatreWorks/USA, America's
largest and most prolific professional not-for-profit theatre
for young and family audiences, has been creating and instructing
since 1961. TheatreWorks/USA has just branched out to become
the first Off-Broadway, resident, family theatre company and
they're calling it TheatreWorks/NYC. As opposed to the national
and local tours on which TW/USA is based, TW/NYC will now occupy
The Lucille Lortel Theatre for the entirety of its 2005-2006
season.
